Great customer service for a almost perfect productThe light and pen are great. The ink cartridges are terrible but just logged in to see they are offering me 3 updated replacement cartridges for free. Thank you for the on point customer service.

Olight ink may suck, but substitutes are availableAccording to a German YouTuber, the O Pen takes Schmidt MegaLine 4876M refills. Schmidt is a highly regarded European brand widely available in the U.S., including at Staples. Many reviewers should have taken a few breaths into a paper bag and looked around for a solution before ventilating.

great design, but...Great design and craftsmanship. The ink cartridge leaves a lot to be desired, nut Olight is an outstanding company and is actively researching and testing a fix.

Great pen , refills need attentionBoth refills that came with pen fail , will not write then they do and ink skips , so I found a guy on Etsy that sells a adapter 5$ that makes a fisher space pen refill fit in the open 2 and it’s amazing! The Schmidt mega line also works as well , not sure why everyone thinks it’s a paperweight, send it to me and I’ll make use of it !

AMAZING!As a Financial Advisor i use mine M-F 8hrs a day i do a whole lot of writing and sigining and checking and im still on the same cartridge it that it is in it i purchases this with the baldr mini as a pack and olight sent me and extra gift of a pack of 3 cartridges and plus the extra one that comes in the Aswome case that i throw in my work bag so now i have 4 extra total and im sure by the time i need to purchase more olight should be selling them. Hopefully. Well enjoy!

Beautiful Pen.....butUnfortunately if you're looking for a writing instrument as I was, keep looking. Absolutely amazing look and feel however it won't put ink on paper. Every olight I've ever owned has always over delivered, this pen/light is the exception. Highly disappointed.....

I got it for the lightAs soon as I saw this I wanted it. I was pretty confident the pen portion would be junk, but I like the idea of the light. I do not like the fine writing tip. The light makes it worth it. If you want a pen buy a pen. The light is in a position that it does not aid in writing but clipping it onto you pocket makes for a good location for added light when talking to someone at night/low light. Its a good bright, lightweight, pocket flashlight. My work shirt now has this penlight and a regular pen and its great. I know Olight will be working on this design and am pretty confident we will be seeing an improvement here in the future.

Great light, poor penI just want to echo what many others have previously stated. This is a great concept, and I was thrilled to see an Olight writing utensil so I could get two daily necessities in one piece—a pen and a light. Unfortunately the pen does not write very well and replacement/alternative cartridges have been difficult to find. I’m going to attempt to modify other type refills to see if they will fit the pen. I almost think the tip of the pen is too tiny. I’m very sad that this didn’t work out as I had hoped.

Light works but pen is garbageInk cartridges are terrible. Both stopped working within 2-3 days of use. No refills to be found online. I bought this because I wanted a pen that had flashlight capabilities. Now I just have and an awkward flashlight. Ink cartridge leaked onto my shirt too. In its defense, the light is great. But this is a pen at its core, not a flashlight. And it fails at that.

Paper Weight with flashlightI am a sucker for pens and love all my Olights. When this came out it was a no-brainer. The whole design of the pen and the light is awesome. The fact they use a USB-C also made it a great sell as all of my accessories use that type of charger. The flop on this pen as others have stated is the ink used. They give you ink on the original pen and one refill. My originall ink cartridge was DOA. The second cartridge barely lasted one week. Olight does not sell refills and when I contacted them they told me to subcribe for updates. I am about to take the refill to Staples and see if I can find one that might fit. Even if they do sell refills I will not be purchasing them, unless they do an overhaul on them.

Overall goodThe pen and light overall are nice on first impressions. Found for my use this pen would be much better with the addition of a magnetic clip.

Built great, but...I really enjoy the craftsmanship of this pen. It’s sleek and I love how hefty is feels without being too obnoxiously heavy (if you consider the fact that there is a battery in there).
The only issue I’ve had with mine is the inconsistency of flow of ink while writing. I don’t mind it as much if I’m writing notes for myself to view, but I don’t think I’d present anything in writing to someone from writing with the OPen2.
I am really impressed with the quality of the light portion of the pen though, but that is no surprise from Olight.
If it was a little cheaper, I’d still recommend it to my fellow flashlight friends, but with the quality of the ink refills, I’d be a little leery to do that until the issue is completely resolved.Posted on

Could be moreLet me start off with; In the short amount of time since I discovered your company , I have purchased several of your products (many of them duplicates). So as you can see I am a fan of your products. Therefore I am aware that you make quality products. With that being said , I see the massive potential that O pen 2 has. As a light it works well enough. For it’s small size ,in a small area it excels! As a pen , it seems durable. Now the not so great , for the most part I feel the light is on the wrong side . Allow me to elaborate; unless held in a hand or clipped on the outside, the light is blocked when in a pocket. This brings me to the clip, it is extremely difficult to use . It doesn’t expand easily and when trying to remove the pen from where it is placed it almost destroys what it is holding on to. As a pen the ink skips and if held at a wrong angle the weight can be felt ( not a bad thing if using the pen in self defense). The switch is a little too sensitive. The first day I carried it; The light activated in my pocket without me knowing and completely drained the battery. The only place it is safe is in a shirt pocket. For work that is fine and I love pocket tees, but that means I have to always make sure I have a shirt pocket in order to carry this. That defeats the purpose of an everyday carry item. As a combo pen and light it isn’t bad , but for what it is , the price range is a little too high. For the price I would much rather buy several of your other products and get great use out of them . Over all I do like the product , I just feel it could’ve been so much more.
None of this has anything to do with the fact that it took way to long too get to me , and that even though I bought this early during the flash sale . Several days later people on Amazon could purchase it and receive before me . I tried to purchase it on Amazon during the flash sale ( it wasn’t available).Posted on

Bought as a gift, embarrassed to do soI purchased to give as a gift. However, haven’t followed through after hearing all the problems with the ink cartridges. Rather than a perfect gift I now have a $40 paperweight.

Beautiful but unusableI have a lot of Olight flashlights and have been buying them for years, so when this pen/light came out I decided it was time to "splurge" on a nice pen to carry instead of the cheap plastic ones. Pen is beautiful, feels nice in the hands, light works well, bolt style is different but I have no thoughts good or bad about it. My problem, which is a big one, is that it sits on a shelf due to it's inability to write. What good is a pen that can't write!?! As others have said, I hardly wrote anything at all (mostly just signatures) before the ink went out. Absolutely NOT acceptable. Hopefully Olight will make it right, and I expect they will.

Nice idea, poor implementationLets start with i love the look and feel of the pen. The light is also a nice touch. But why, would they use such an oddball ink cartridge. Not many replacement options. The catridge that came qith the pen made it ALMOST through the words open2 test before dying. Replaces with spare, which started dying mid shift on 2nd night of use. (Worried about ink leaking and destroying shirts i carried it in a latex glove finger) as usual i swtched back to the trusty g2. Got home and 2nd cartridge was dead. Installed 3rd from the box of 3 added to order. I just put it away at that point. Now i have 2 nice looking pens i cant use. Would be so nice to pop a parker atyle refill in and not worry, but nope....its a shame to have to modify a new item to use it

Good light, terrible as a penSeems to be well made and the light, being made by Olight, is great. But as a pen it's almost comically bad. It's like they were so obsessed with the light that they forgot that the whole point of a pen is to write.
The third time I used it, it refused to write. If you doodle to the point of almost wearing through the paper it starts to write only to have the whole process start over the next day. One star may seem a bit harsh but it's a pen. A pen that doesn't write.Posted on

great conceptOverall, great idea. Credit where it is due: the overall construction, fit and finish is excellent. The light works very well and is the right amount of brightness when Im examining a patient. Downside: like others that commented before me, the clip is really tight! Too tight! I had to put a little bend in it to not damage clothing. Also I agree the pen cartridge writes badly and I cant find refills for the future. I will keep watching for a better cartridge but in the end I do love this pen/ light!

Simply a Failure I’ll Explain WhyLet me preface, as others have, that I am a big supporter of Olight’s company and innovation. Also just like others I have so many of their products. Out of their new product releases (Odin, Baldr Mini, etc. of which I own all of them) I was more excited for this pen than any of the others. I use a pen frequently and daily. Without drawing this out to be really long I could not find one thing I like about it over the past 2 weeks. I’ll begin from top to bottom:
The button kept turning on in my pocket no matter where I put so it would either die or start to heat up my pocket when it entered “high” mode. The clip, which I probably hated more than anything on the pen was extremely tight. It tore two pairs of pants (the top of the pockets were shredded due to extreme friction of trying to insert and remove from pocket) one pair of pants has had a knife clip every use for 3 years and has nowhere near the tearing. I bent the clip outward to stop from tearing. What I don’t understand is why all the lights have decent clips and this one was Fort Knoxed. And due to the fixed position it got in the way as it could not be rotated. The light, which wasn’t terrible had a nice diffused but even flood. The bolt is placed in an equally cumbersome area. It is awkward and high enough that you have to move your hand from writing position to actuate it. It is also in the way because your index finger is touching the stationary clip when trying to use the bolt. And finally the ink/tip which is by far the worst thing of all. I purchased this to write. The ink and tip are very scratchy if I had to describe it. It feels like you’re using a nail or thumbtack to etch if that makes sense. It was far from smooth and the ink was never continuous. Prior to me bending the clip I had decided to just keep the pen in my pocket. I later found two huge ink stains that had accumulated. Both visible from the outside of the pants. The pen was empty due to the bolt probably engaging. So needless to say those pants were tossed.
Conclusion and possible suggestions:
Button)
This has the design aspects of a button that make the i3T, i5T and M1T my least favorite lights(I gave all of them away because they kept dying from being on). If they had a flush shroud to disable accidental presses that may help.
Clip)
The tension from the pocket clips from most of the edc lights work fine and maybe requires a bottom retainer to keep from moving but even then that’s not required.
Bolt) Couldn’t even fidget with it because of placement. Place it towards the bottom of the pen and have a more secure lock for both open and closed positions.
Ink/Tip) I don’t even know where to start. Possibly contract Bic or be able to swap with an already popular cartridge.
Price) Extremely high at $50 and needs to be cut to a third in its current configuration. (see below)
For me it’s better to spend $20 and purchase an i1R2 Eos and a pack of Bic Cristal Ballpoint Xtra smooth pens ($3 and you get 10 of them).
This is now a paperweight/dust collector. Olight if you do take the time to consider these suggestions I have pictures and ideas. I write (in cursive 90% of the time, just how I roll) frequently and would like to make a contribution in future versions.

Open2I love the style of the pen. It has weight to it and it feels solid!
The light is good no complaints there at all.
But it struggles to write I ha e to constantly shake the pen to get ink to the tip which sucks because the pen is 40-50 dollars. I got mine for 40 when it first came out.
But I will say the ink doesn’t smear after which is a positive for me!
But overall I don’t recommend until olight fixes the issues with the pen not writing consistently!Posted on

Mine works perfectly.I have been very happy with my OPen2. I understand some have had issues with their ink refills, but mine has worked flawlessly. The light is more than bright for most all writing related tasks. Very affordable and feature rich for the EDC pen market. I deducted one star due to limited amount of off the shelf refills available.
I have all the faith in the world Olight will find a solution to those who are experiencing issue with the refills.Posted on

Great EDC pen**Just exquisitely made, it exudes quality and feels solid in the hand.
Love the light, a nice wide flood beam.
Love just LOVE the bolt action of the pen, it's a very sturdy and satisfying action. It's become a fidget toy as it's so nice to play with.
Really happy it uses USB-C charging. I'm slowly getting all of my devices to that standard. Nice to have it in a light.

Good except for the ink cartridgeI like the O Pen2. I tried to give it a chance, thinking it might start writing better with more use, but it didn't. The ink cartridge is terrible. It sucks that you pay 50 bucks for a pen, then have to pay more for a good refill.

DisappointingI want to start by saying I am an Olight fan. I have many of there lights (over 20). I have even gotten several people to start buying their lights. I would give the majority of their lights I have 5 stars.
I had high hopes for this product. As a light this is a decent product. Not 5 star but maybe 4 star.
Now to the pen part of this product. As a pen I would give it less than 1 star.
Pros: light is good, you get a goody bag with extra ink refills and the weight is good for a pen.
Cons: The design is bad. When you hold it to write either the clip or the mechanism to extend and retract the pen is in the way. The clip is to tight against the body ( I tore the pocket on my shirt with it. The pen does not write well. It is not smooth at all, and it will only write if the paper is below the pen 90 to 45 degrees. I tried to write on paper that is vertical. It would not write on it at all even if I held the light part of the pen higher than the pen part. It is not even decent as a pen.
I am disappointed with this product and I did not want to be. This product will just sit around and collect dust. It is not usable as a pen. I do not need it as only a light I have smaller and brighter lights for EDC. If it was a light and a decent pen it would be a great EDC. Sorry about the 2 star rating, but I believe it is a fair rating.

Skip this one.I am an avid olight user platinum member, so I have a fairly large product base to compare this to. The machining in this pen falls short of what I expect from olight. Externally it is fine, but internally the pen body is so rough my bolt action binds up. The cut per inch was so large I can hear the ridges as I move it. I can even bind it with the pen spring removed. The ink cartridge writes smooth. The light is pure flood, zero focus. Could have used a bit of hotspot. The pocket clip is aluminum, nice touch there. However it is so tight I ripped my pocket clipping it on. I expected more from this pen, olight could have done better. If you are a pen lover skip it. If you are a olight lover get a perun mini, you will like it much better.

Not a good writing instrumentI purchased two of the OPen 2's in the recent Elite 2020 sales when they were first released. I was excited to carry one in my EDC loadout until I wrote with the pen. The flow of ink from the installed and replacement ink cartridges is terrible at best. On a positive note, the light works as it should and is surprisingly bright. Also, the look, feel, and bolt-action are all great. Overall, the body of the pen and the light are good but writing with the pen is not good so I can only give this 2 stars until this is fixed.

Initial ImpressionThe build quality is quite nice, threads cleanly machined. The bolt works nicely, and the click of the flash switch is distinct. The clip is screwed on, which is a nice feature that I wish the 13T/15T had as an option. In addition, this isn't your everyday mass-produced pen clip either, it's SOLID. If you have reinforced pocket edges, like Kuhl and 5.11 offer, it might not go over the fabric.
The light is surprisingly bright, has multiple modes, which are handy. The pen comes in a solid plastic case, and includes a 6" USB-C charging cable, as well as an extra ink cartridge, which makes for an extremely well thought out package.
It has enough heft and rigidity to be used for a self defense tool, however the flashlight switch position alters your thumb position so as to not illuminate the LED.
If I could alter one thing, it might be more aggressive knurling or checkering the pen body due to the flashlight switch position, or making the bolt operate the pen in one direction and the flashlight in the other. This would flip the light, putting the charge port on the back of the pen where your thumb would naturally go in a defensive scenario.

O-Pen 2Opening it, the product looked absolutely amazing. But Olight is known for their lights, not pens, cause the pen is not good at all. I read someone saying the pen is smooth. It's not smooth. And the ink doesn't come out sometimes when writing, so basically I got a really cool looking pen with a really awesome light, but the pen is below average.

Great Pen Light!First Of All, Great Customer Service From Olight! When My Pen Had A Slight Delay In Shipping, Customer Service Followed Up And Made Sure I Received My Pen Quickly! This Pen Is Awesome! Writes Smoothly, Light Works Great, And Is Fantastic To "Fidget" With! Good Job, Olight!

WOWOlight never disappoints and this is surely another win. So impressed with everything about this: the packaging, the design, the bolt-style actuator for the pen, the actual writing quality of the pen itself, and they even put enough thought to include an extra cartridge! And of course the light itself is top notch as expected. Simple yet effective 3 modes. Only con i could possibly give is that i would like to see maybe a light lockout mode since the button is so easy to press. But other than that, i cant wait until it's on sale again, i want 2 more!

Pretty good overallAfter spending some time with the Open 2, I find it to be unusable for every day use. The build quality is great and the light is fantastic, but the pocket clip is too tight. I carry my pens in my shirt pocket at work, and I have to pry it open just to slip over a thin amount of fabric which becomes tedious very quickly. The only other gripe I have is the ink which doesn't write consistently at all, and lacks fluidity.

Useless as a penFirst off as a flashlight this is a great pocket light but as a pen it's completely useless. The ink goes dry almost immediately tried both that came with the pen and they both dried up after maybe two sentences.

nice but needs workA nice pen when the ink actually flows. Smooth writing without leakage or smudging. The problem is the current ink cartridge doesn’t work very good. Will stop writing for unknown reasons, should be better when they find different ink refills.

Nice solid Pen!Nice heft to the OPen 2, feels solid in your hand. I don't know how many times I've just sat here at my desk and played with the bolt action.. I have pen marks on both my hands now lol.
Light is just bright enough for the application, it doesn't need 1800 lumens folks.. 5 lumens will be just fine 98% of the time and switching to the higher modes (up to 120 lumens) is super easy. Momentary on is a great bonus!
My only worry about the pen is the refills. I know Olight will be selling them soon. (and an extra comes in the box)
I did take the refill out and noticed the spring that is on it is very hard to take off and could easily get stretched when the Open needs a refill. be very careful when you need to change the refill.
About a 1/4" taller and just a tad thicker than a standard Sharpie. Perfect.Posted on

New favorite penThis pen is great. I use pens all the time fore taking notes or writing ideas down and have gone through and used my fair share of different pens. This one writes very smoothly and the mechanism used to deploy and retract the pen tip is very unique. I tested out how easy it would be to change the pen cartridge and it is very easy. The light works very well as well.

First Time Disappointed in OlightI was so very excited to receive my OPen 2 pens anticipating it replacing my daily carry work pen. The light works great but the ink cartridges are terrible. The one that came in the pen was dry right at first use and the replacement cartridge wrote for about 10 minutes and quit working. I sure hope that a standard short rollerball replacement cartridge from a reliable pen company like schmidt will fit in this pen. Otherwise I am stuck with two pen lights that only use proprietary cartridges with no competetive price control and poor performance. First Olight product that I have ever regretted purchasing. I'm glad I didn't give the second away as a gift yet.

Great Idea terrible applicationThe light is fantastic and has the reliability that I have come to appreciate from Olight. However the writing part of the pen, which some would say is the main point of the pen, is almost comically bad. Within the first 8 hrs the pen has completely stopped writing altogether. On the side of the refill it says it lasts for a year of cap off time, would have been nice if it lasted the afternoon.

Perfect travel and on the job companionThe OPen 2 from Olight is the perfect companion for traveling and work. I work the overnight shift at a hospital and I've always wanted a pen which doubles as a mini flashlight. The construction of the pen is top notch and it feels like the pen is mostly constructed by aluminum. The clip is very sturdy and the pen writes smoothly. I also like the how the light can be detached from the pen so you can place the light next to your notepad and write in the dark. This pen definitely feels premium and it is highly recommended. I can't wait for other colorways to come out in the near future (hint hint)

It’s awesomeThe light is amazing and it’s rechargeable very bright with adjustability with brightness. As for the Pen it’s is so high quality with a extra refill with it. I bought the mega pack and this was the best surprise it’s awesome and worth every penny. The pen writes flawless and feels good it write with. I really want another one. Thank you Olight you hit it out of the park with this one.

Great penI love the pen. The light works very well and the pen writes surprisingly good, but must be used at a slight angle for more ink to disperse. The only thing I don't like is there being absolutely no information on obtaining refills. The ink replacements are of the mini variation and I'm sure they'll run out fairly quickly. If the ink refills end up being expensive then this pen will probably sit on the shelf, and I'll go back to buying bulk packs of pilot G2's for work.

Locked into Olight for refils? No specifications on refill models or availability - even in the downloadable user guide. Not interested in paying for a one time use pen which is what this will be if refills are only available through Olight - especially when they will not sell accessories during (seemingly) monthly sales. Would love to replace the pen with a space pen or at least something I can buy locally, in a pinch.

Pen very nice, both ink cartridges empty. The pen is very well made and the light works great, however, for the price I would expect the ink cartridges to work. Both of the cartridges in my order did not work and I had to purchase additional replacement ink cartridges. This is unacceptable so I am giving the pen an overall lower rating.
